Broadband and Cable-TV Services

SATO and Sonera have entered into a cooperation agreement under which around 20,000 SATO homes have been provided with access to broadband services and connected to a cable TV service. The services are mainly based on Sonera's optical fibre connections. A 2/2 Mbps broadband connection is included in the rent of apartments covered by the agreement.
The cable TV service covers the basic channels. Residents can order pay-TV channels from Sonera as a supplementary service.

1. What does the agreement mean in practice?

The agreement covers the cable TV and broadband services ordered by SATO from Sonera. Depending on the property, the connections and services are provided using an optical fibre or cable network. Each property can only have access to the services of one TV service provider at a time. The cable TV service and the supplementary services included in it are provided from Sonera's cable network. Therefore if you wish to use any pay-TV services you will need to order them from Sonera following the reform.

Apartments covered by the agreement are ready for broadband access at the basic speed of 2/2 Mbps. There will be no separate monthly charge for broadband access at the basic speed. In addition to this, residents may independently order extra speed and services from Sonera. To start using the broadband access you must register the connection under your own name. (Please note that you must also do this if you wish to start using the 2 Mbps connection provided free of charge.). To register, phone Sonera’s sales service on 0800 133 133.

2. Which equipment can I use the broadband and TV services with?

All those buildings that have a broadband connection operating over the telephone network (Cat3) are equipped with technology enabling access at speeds up to 100 Mbps when using a VDSL2 modem. Residents can get their modems from whichever supplier they wish.

If the building is equipped with separate data network cabling (generic cabling) and Ethernet (Cat5/Cat6) connections, you will not need a separate terminal device. To find out if this is the case, check if the apartment has a data socket with an RJ45 connector in one or more of the rooms. The apartment may also have an apartment distributor cabinet in which you should select which data socket in the apartment is active. Then connect the data cable directly to the data socket equipped with an RJ-45 connector.

To use the cable connection, you will need a cable modem. Connect the modem to the aerial wall socket and connect the computer to the modem, preferably using a network cable. If connecting a TV set or digibox to the same aerial socket, you will need to use a splitter to divide the signal between the devices.

To access cable TV services, you will need a digibox or digital TV that is compatible with cable distribution (DVB-C). Residents can get their terminal devices from whichever supplier they wish. Cable-ready digiboxes and digital TVs must also be tuned into the new TV channels.

3. Are the services available in all SATO homes?

The agreement covers most SATO homes, but unfortunately there are still some buildings where the services cannot be accessed at the moment. This is due to technical or administrative reasons. SATO is making efforts to provide homes not covered by the agreement with access to corresponding services.

4. How do I know if our building is covered by the agreement?

You will find the information on your building’s own pages at sato.fi.

5. What should I do to access the services?

To start using the broadband access you must register the connection under your own name. (Please note you must also do this if you wish to start using the 2 Mbps connection provided free of charge.). To register, phone Sonera’s sales service on 0800 133 133.

As regards TV services, make sure you check that your digibox or digital TV is compatible with cable distribution (DVB-C). You will need to get your own terminal devices and tune your digital receivers into the TV channels as instructed in the device manuals.

6.  If I need  more information ?

Sonera will inform residents of a service number. The residents can phone the number if they have any questions about the introduction of the service.
