Moving to a SATO Home

Moving to a new home is an exciting occasion but can also be quite arduous. Here you will find out about the basics of moving into a SATO home. If when renting an apartment a SATO sales office or a local estate agent provides you with more detailed information or advice that differs from that given here, please follow the advice given by them.

When Moving to a SATO Home

  • Provide the maintenance company with a notification of arrival (= Tuloilmoitus). This notification should be returned to the maintenance company within three days of the move. Having received this notification, the maintenance company will register you as a resident of the building and put your name on the boards by the door and staircase.
  • Provide the Population Register Centre with an official notification of move no later than one week after the move. You can submit the notification of move by calling +358 (0)203 456 456. You can also print out a form from the website of the Population Register Centre and then post it as detailed in the instructions.
  • Make sure you inform the Post Office (Itella) of your change of address and make a mail-forwarding agreement with them. Notifications of move for the Post Office and Population Register Centre can be done by calling +358 (0)203 456 456.

Electricity supply agreement

You will also need to make an electricity supply agreement with an energy supplier. This is worth doing a couple of weeks before you move.

Parking space

SATO buildings have a certain number of parking spaces, some of which are reserved for building residents and some for visitors. A separate fee is charged for parking space rental. The rental fee varies, depending on whether the parking space has an engine-warming socket or whether it is a so-called 'cold' space. In general, parking space reservations are handled either by the maintenance company or by a separate parking company, which you should contact if you wish to reserve a space. However, you should remember that in some cases demand for spaces exceeds supply, so a space may not be immediately granted and you will be placed on a waiting list. The organisation handling parking space reservations will also supply you with a key for the engine-warming socket.

Keys

The maintenance company will give you keys to the apartment. Do not accept the keys directly from the previous occupant of the apartment, because the maintenance company must register the keys and charge for any that may be missing. If you require additional keys or have lost one, please contact SATO's housing assistant for more keys. You are responsible for costs involved in ordering extra keys.

Nameplate

Your name will be put on the boards by the door and staircase once you have submitted the notification of arrival to the maintenance company, which will also be in charge of adding and changing names whenever necessary.

Insurance cover

When moving to a new home, remember to check the content of your home insurance policy to see if it meets the requirements of your new home. If you do not have any home insurance cover, you are strongly advised to take out a policy. Although SATO buildings have the appropriate buildings insurance, this does not cover damage caused to residents' personal property, even if the accident takes place on the premises. Home insurance also provides financial security in case of accidents in the home in cases where the occupant might be liable for damage not only to their own apartment but also to a neighbouring apartment.
