Progress made in SATO’s StudioHome project

Concept sparked by cooperation with students turns small homes into something big

SATO has developed a new inexpensive housing concept – SATO StudioHome – in response to demand for housing in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area in particular. The plan is to build the first StudioHomes in Raikukuja street, Martinlaakso, Vantaa. Permission to launch the development of the property of was granted by the City of Vantaa on Monday.

The SATO StudioHome concept was brainstormed with general upper secondary school students at the Safari camp for societal action in summer 2014. The new 15 sqm homes are light-filled studios that feel twice as large as the actual floor area and boast excellent functionality and clever fittings and decor solutions. The spacious sleeping loft makes full use of the impressive ceiling height of almost 4 metres, and the tall French doors to the balcony help maximise the amount of natural light in these homes.

Investment Manager Miikka Karjaluoto:

- I’m really happy about the progress made in this pilot project. Special credit for the project’s success is due to the City of Vantaa officials whose approach has been very positive and open-minded.

- The model home was available for viewing in the summer at the Vantaa Housing Fair where 96% of the total of 13,000 fair visitors providing feedback found there is a need for this new housing solution in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. Many of the respondents representing a variety of age groups also reported that they could select SATO StudioHome as their home, with many providing positive comments particularly about how spacious the apartment feels despite the small floor area.

- The model home will spend the winter on the grounds of the SATO office in Käpylä, Helsinki, and we’ll be happy to organise viewings for anyone interested in taking a look inside it.
.

At the pilot property the monthly rent of the new SATO StudioHome will be €500. The space available to the residents will be extended further by the common areas: there will be a large lounge area on the ground floor and a spacious terrace and sauna section on the top floor.
