SATO StudioHome wins second prize in innovation competition

1 February 2016

SATO’s inexpensive rental housing concept, SATO StudioHome, has won the second prize in the public vote of the Finnish housing market innovation competition. Developed by SATO in response to demand for homes in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, the concept was shortlisted for the final from among 24 competitors.

The 15 sqm StudioHome is a lovely studio that boasts excellent functionality and clever fittings and decor solutions. The compact home has an impressive ceiling height of almost 4 m and a sleeping loft with lots of space, while the tall French doors to the balcony help maximise the amount of natural light.

Investment Manager Miikka Karjaluoto from SATO:

- The SATO StudioHome concept first arose from SATO employees’ innovation work and was brainstormed further with general upper secondary school students at the Safari camp for societal action in summer 2014. It received excellent feedback at the Housing Fair in the summer and was picked for the Journalists’ Dozen by Finnish interior design journalists in the autumn.

- This positive publicity will encourage us to develop the StudioHome further and be bold in our efforts to generate new ideas for the future of rental housing.

The housing market innovation competition was organised by Tekes – the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation, the Rakennuslehti magazine for construction industry decision-makers and Suomen Asuntotietokeskus Centre of Finnish Housing Communications. The winner was the Skaala Alfa cLean window solution with 46% of the votes, while SATO StudioHome received 36% of the votes.
