Kotkatie 6 M-N stands in the green suburb of Karakallio, next to a wooded area dotted with lilies-of-the-valley. Completed in 2023, Kotkatie 6 M-N pays homage to the look of the area’s older architecture. The building has 92 units, all with their own particular character and ranging in size from studios to three-bedroom family homes. The light-coloured brick cladding facades of the buildings give the property a spacious feel.
The building’s parking facility is partly underground. The part above ground is covered with a wooden trellis that in time will become a green wall. The same nature motif continues to the outdoor storage units and the residential building with its entrances clad in thermally treated wood. The artist-created murals on the walls of the ground-floor stairwell lobbies also communicate the same inviting feel.
The wood-framed balconies reduce the building’s carbon footprint and give residents a touch of a warm, natural material – not to mention a wonderful view of the block courtyard. Residents of the building also have access to shared cars, which can be found in the housing company's parking facility.
The residential room floors are done in light oak-coloured laminate. The bedroom wardrobe doors are white and all windows are fitted with white Venetian blinds.
The backsplash in the kitchen is in marble-look laminate. The kitchen cabinet doors are microlaminate in a pale beige shade. The kitchen worktops are in marble-look laminate or stainless steel. The kitchens are outfitted with stove, cooker hood, fridge-freezer and dishwasher. There is also space for a microwave.
The bathroom floors are done in grey ceramic tile and the walls in larger white tile, the ceiling in wood. The tiled bathrooms have wet underfloor heating. The wet rooms have space and hookups for a washing machine and a dryer.
All apartments feature a Juliet balcony or glassed-in balcony. The balconies have either metal-framed glass railings (wooden balconies), steel railings (Juliet balconies) or are made from concrete pre-fab elements (street-side recessed balconies). The glass panes of the balcony glazing can be opened.
The units feature a centralised mechanical air intake and displacement system with air heat recovery. The type of heating installed is thermostat-controlled hot-water radiators connected to the geothermal heating system. There is a lift in each stairwell.
The building has a sauna section, laundry, two drying rooms, combined outdoor equipment storage room, storage rooms for bicycles and the like, and a storage locker for each unit. There are also two unheated outdoor equipment storage rooms on the grounds.
The walkways in the grounds are done in asphalt, tile, concrete slab, pavers or crushed rock. The building shares the block courtyard and its playground with the neighbouring building.
